Puppets That
SwallowTMMany of our puppets swallow. That's right they actually swallow objects.
Too Tall the frog and
Swimmy the fish are two of our unique and very special
puppets.
Why is the swallowing function unique? It offers limitless entertainment, imaginative play, educational value and is an aid to health professionals.
Place the hand you write with, in the puppet's head. Your fingers, hidden by the cloth mouth, go in the head and your thumb goes into the puppet's jaw.
Now, with the eyes of the puppet looking at your audience, move the puppets mouth up and down. Suddenly the shyest most reserved person becomes a puppeteer!
Meet some of our other swallowing puppets.

Pictured left to right starting at the top are Sara the Mouse (B), Pinky the Pig (C), Katy the Caterpillar and Butterfly (D), Smackadoodles the Dog (E), Snider the Spider (A), Vinnie the Varmint (H), Mr. Moosebumps the Moose (I), Jessica the Bear (F), Sammy the Snake (G),Too Tall the Frog (J), Swimmy the Fish (K), and Lisa the Lady Bug.
Ok. "Why is the swallowing function so important?" Well, just think of the possibilities. You get the immediate attention of everyone in your audience because they have never seen a puppet eat and swallow an object. This is the entertainment value.
But how about the imaginative and educational value or as an aid to health professionals?
Let's say you want to teach a young child the abcs, numbers, colors, and shapes. Let the puppet be your assistant. For instance, take a plastic letter or number (found on many refrigerator doors!) and give it to the child. Then tell him (or her) that if he correctly identifies the letter or number he can "feed" it to the puppet.
This becomes a game and the child is so intent on feeding the puppet that she doesn't realize that she is learning the abcs or colors. You can also try this with Legos®.
Give me another example of imaginative and educational value.
How about a reading companion? Sara the mouse goes great with the book If you Give a Mouse a Cookie. And Mr. Moosebumps complements the book If You Give a Moose a Muffin. Yes, your young reader can actually feed Sara the Mouse a "cookie" or Mr. Mooosebumps a "muffin." This makes the story come alive.
What about an aid to health professionals? Many of our puppets come with articulators - articulable tongue, teeth and lips. Now you can show the child the location of the tongue in the puppet's mouth for various sounds.
Let the fun begin!
Each of our swallowing puppets come with a cloth "bug" or "cookie." Using your left hand (if you are right-handed), place the cookie three quarters of the way into the puppet's mouth. Then start "chewing" and bring the cookie through the mouth opening. Your audience never sees your hand or fingers operating the puppet's mouth. Then, like magic, the cookie disappears into the palm of your hand.
Don't despair if at first you are not successful. With a little bit of practice, especially in front of a mirror, you will become accomplished at "eating" anything that will fit through the slit in the puppet's mouth.

His dream job is working in a cuckoo clock but everyone keeps telling him he's too big. That doesn't prevent Cuckoo from sporadic outbursts of "Hey, YOU! It's nine o'clock!" He has to practice, you know. |
